What is a branch?
A branch is the main unit of local organisation in UNISON. The branch
is run by UNISON members on a voluntary basis, often with some facilities,
such as time off or access to a computer or office, provided by their
employer.

If you are a member:
- Phone UNISONdirect to find out what branch you are a member of and
the name of your branch secretary
- Contact your branch secretary and ask them to put you in touch with
your workplace representative - often known as a steward - and arrange
to meet them to find out more about your branch and how it operates
If you are a member of staff:
- In regions, ask your line manager about visiting a branch office.
- All staff: get a copy of the Code of Good Branch Practice and the
Branch Directory. How many branches are there in the UK/in your region?
- What can you find out about the number of employers covered by each
branch?
